Talking to Ana

Open Ana, talk or type to her, and what her card shows while she works: captions, what she did, read-backs and pointing.

Start a conversation

Press Ana's face at the bottom right of any page. On a phone, her card opens as a sheet along the bottom of the screen.

The first time, read Before we talk and press Agree and start talking. See Meet Ana.

Press Start talking. Your browser asks to use the microphone: press Allow. Then just speak. A red dot shows while the microphone is on.

You can interrupt her at any time, as you would a person.

If your browser blocked the microphone, Ana says so. Allow the microphone for the site in your browser's settings, then try again.

Button	What it does
Microphone	Turns your microphone off and on. Ana keeps the conversation open.
Type instead (keyboard)	Opens a box, Type to Ana. Useful in a noisy room or for names and numbers.
Talk to a person	Opens the Support page, to write to the ChatBeds team.
Stop	Ends the conversation. Everything she did is saved.
Minimise	Closes the card. A conversation under way carries on.
Hide Ana for me (eye)	Hides Ana for you only. See Settings for Ana.

Captions. Everything you say and everything Ana says is written in the card, as it is said.
What Ana did. Under the captions, each action shows with ✓ when it is done or ✕ if it failed, with the reason.
Read-backs. Before a change, Ana reads it back and the card shows it with Confirm and Cancel. Say yes or press Confirm. Nothing changes before that.
Long or visual things. Link codes, QR codes, WhatsApp commands, calendar addresses and Stripe details show on the card to copy or scan. Ana does not read them out.
Your minutes. Before you start, the card shows how many of your hotel's minutes with Ana are used today.

Ana sees which ChatBeds page you are on and its title. She never sees what you type in password, card or secret fields.

Opening pages. She asks first ("Shall I open the Staff page?"), and opens it after a yes. She only opens ChatBeds pages from a fixed list.
Pointing. Instead of describing where a button is, she highlights it with a soft spotlight.
You stay in control. Click anywhere at any time. Ana sees where you went and follows you.
Pages keep up. When she changes something, the page you are on refreshes to show it.

A conversation is saved as you go, not held in the audio.

After a reload, or after Stripe's payment page, her card offers Carry on with Ana. Press it to pick up where you were, or press Start a new conversation.
Between ChatBeds sites, for example from the website to the app, the conversation follows you. Your browser may ask for the microphone once more on the new site.
Up to a day later, you can still carry on. After that, a new conversation starts.

Ana starts in the language your hotel chose in Settings → Ana, or in English if none was chosen.
She switches when you clearly say a whole sentence in another language, or ask her to switch. Then she keeps to it.
She does not switch for a single word, a name, a place or background noise, and never mixes two languages in one answer.
Hindi and Urdu sound the same when spoken. Once she speaks one of them, she keeps to it unless you ask for the other.
ChatBeds words stay as they are in every language: room names, numbers and commands like 301 clean.
When you carry on a conversation, she uses the language you spoke last.
