Taxes

Set several taxes: a percent, or a city tax per guest or room per night. Each is its own line on the bill.

Go to Settings → Taxes to set your hotel's taxes. You can have up to 10, for example a sales tax, a service charge and a city tax. Each one is shown on its own line of the guest's bill and invoice.

Kinds of tax

KindExampleHow it's worked out
A percentSales tax 16%A percent of the room (and your fees), of extras, or of both
An amount per guest per nightCity tax PKR 200The amount × guests × nights. Children can be left out
An amount per room per nightTourism levy USD 2The amount × nights

For each tax you can also choose:

  • Already included in our prices (percent only): nothing is added. The bill shows how much of the price is that tax ("Includes Service charge: USD 14.29").
  • Only the first nights: for example a city tax charged for the first 7 nights only.
  • Children free under an age (per guest only): children on the booking don't pay.

Add a tax

Click Add a tax, give it a name, choose its kind and fill in the percent or amount.

Save

Click Save taxes. New bookings use them straight away.

Bookings keep their taxes

Each booking keeps the taxes it was made with. Changing a tax never changes a booking already made, even when you add a charge to it later.

If you set a single tax rate before, the Taxes page shows it as one tax called "Tax". Save the page to keep it as it is, or change it.

What is taxed

  • The room includes room nights and your own fees (cleaning, early check-in, late check-out).
  • Extras are extras chosen at booking and charges added at the desk, like laundry or the minibar.
  • Cancellation and no-show fees are never taxed, and tax is never taxed.

A guest who pays no tax

Some guests, such as diplomats, don't pay tax.

  • On one booking: open the booking and click No tax on this booking in the Money section. Type the reason (for example "Diplomat, embassy letter 42"). The tax lines come off and the bill shows the reason. Click Charge tax again to undo it.
  • For a guest's future bookings: in the booking's Guest section, a manager clicks Pays no tax next to Tax and types the reason. The guest's new bookings carry it.

An invoiced booking can't be changed: credit the invoice first. See Invoices and receipts.
